If you’re spending summer in Camas, Washington—or considering a move to this friendly, active town—there’s one event you don’t want to overlook: the 2025 Summer Reading Program at the Camas Public Library. Running from June 14 through August 16, this community-wide initiative is more than just a way to keep kids reading. It’s a celebration of learning, connection, and fun that appeals to all ages.

Whether you’re a book lover, a parent looking for engaging activities, or a new resident hoping to connect with your community, this program delivers a little something for everyone.

How the Summer Reading Program Works

The premise is simple: read whatever you want, track your reading, and earn prizes. You don’t need to stick to traditional novels. Graphic novels, audiobooks, cookbooks, and even magazines all count. If you’re reading, you’re participating.

To complete the program, participants need to log reading on 40 separate days between June 14 and August 16. The library makes this as easy as possible by offering three different ways to track your progress:

  • The Beanstack Tracker app, downloadable on your smartphone

  • The Beanstack website, accessible from any device

  • Paper game boards, available in versions for kids, teens, and adults

This flexible setup makes it easy for busy families and individuals to get involved, no matter their preferred method.

What’s in It for You? Prizes, of Course

The Camas Public Library isn’t just encouraging reading for the fun of it, although that’s a big part of the appeal. They’re also offering a great lineup of prizes that get better the more you read.

For kids and teens, every 10 days of logged reading earns a prize. Here’s what you can expect:

  • On your first visit, you’ll receive a custom bookmark.

  • On your second visit, you’ll get a tote bag.

  • On your third visit, you’ll score a coupon for a sweet treat.

  • When you complete the 40-day goal, you’ll earn a free book and a scratch-off ticket for a chance to win additional prizes.

The scratch-off rewards range from small goodies to grand prizes like Kindles and passes to the Oregon Zoo. Prize pickup is available during Prize Nook Hours, and the last day to claim prizes is Saturday, August 23.

Prize Nook Hours:

  • Mondays to Fridays: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Wednesdays: 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Teen Volunteers Needed

If you’re a teen looking for a way to gain experience, earn volunteer hours, or just contribute to your community, this is your chance. The library is currently accepting applications for teen volunteers to help run the Summer Reading Program. It’s a great opportunity to build skills, connect with peers, and play a vital role in a citywide event. Applications can be found on the Camas Library website.

Activities and Events All Summer Long

Reading isn’t the only thing happening this summer. The library is offering a full slate of activities and events designed to make the most of the season.

Participants can take on extra challenges through Beanstack to earn online badges, try new crafts and art projects, or take part in the StoryWalk at Dorothy Fox Park. The library has even put together a list of 100 things to do this summer for those looking to fill their days with discovery and creativity.

The event calendar is filled with free, family-friendly options that bring the community together in meaningful ways—from story times to special guest performances and interactive workshops.
